Critical Ratings –

Who are they? (artists etc): A bluesy rock trio from the deep-south Hampshire deltas. The name is from an image of the skull in Hamlet, seen at a Southampton club night, and they met at Winchester School of Art. Their US-oriented sound has been mirrored by LA album sessions and connections with John McEnroe and David Letterman.

How come? Drummer Matt Hayward has played tennis with McEnroe, while a slot on Letterman's show reflects their impact in the US. Their White Stripesy track I Know What I Am was a single of the week on iTunes. However, their debut CD single, featuring the twin vocals of Emma Richardson and Russell Marsden, shows other dimensions. The lead track, Fires, has a gorgeous, keening melody like Bends-period Radiohead.

Have they arrived from nowhere?

No, they were once called Fleeing New York, but now they're with Shangri-La Music, the US label home of the Duke Spirit and the Pretenders. BoS have common ground with both bands, and pop heritage - Hayward's dad's band shared management with the Troggs.

Where can I hear them?

The success on iTunes meant the band's debut album, Baby Darling Doll Face Honey, was rushed out digitally (listen at bandofskulls.com/listen). The UK-only Fires single will be released on You Are Here on 13 July.
Colour Scheme: Orange, White, Black.

Name of band:  Michael Jackson
Featuring Songs: There are no other featuring songs within the advert, because it is a single, a single consists of one song usually of an upcoming album & performance that is up for release at a later date.
Download or CD: Michael Jackson had plans to perform his new track "this is it" at his concert (ironicaly also called this is it). After its performance dates, he planned to release his final album. Unfortunately he passed away, his dream was incomplete.
Artwork: Simplicity is the key word. The graphic designer has used a siluete of the pop legend. This can only work when an artist has reached immense levels of fame that simply and outline of his/her body is enough to catch an eye & trigger a reaction.
Label: Sony Records.

Critical Ratings –

Who are they? (artists etc): Michael Joseph Jackson was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman. Referred to as the King of Pop, or by his initials MJ, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance, and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

How come? In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs, including those of "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame.

Have they arrived from nowhere? No, he originally begun singing in his early ages as part of the renown "jackson five". He then later trained under the legendary eyes of non other than Quincy Jones. His track released in his late teens early 20's "Beat it" is said to have spun him to success.

Where can I hear them?
