Scripting & Story Boarding

Scripting

We came to the conclusion that our music video simply couldn't have a set script. This is due to the fact that the video is based entirely around the iPad concept. The iPad concept is the idea both me and charlie devised. We decided to film peoples faces lip syncing lyrics to our song of choice (James Blake - Wilhelm Scream). We then synced all the faces with the song and cropped and edited the footage so that they were all completely in time with the music and fitted perfectly within the width and diameter of the ipad screen. This was integral so that the illusion of a different head on a different body was not broken. They were then transferred onto the iPad. The final part of the concept was that iPad would be held in front of the actors face giving off the illusion of someone else's face/head on someone else's body. In a sense we did have a sort of script in the sense that we made notes and documented places and areas we would like to show within the video. An example of this was on my personal iPhone, within the notes section i wrote potential shot ideas and locations that we thought would look ideal within the film.

We also did not like the idea of fully scripting out what was going happen, we felt like a more natural approach of just jumping in the deep end was a far better option when filming such diverse locations. Another key reason why scripting could not be done was that their is no underlying narrative within the film. When planning how and what we were going to shoot, we did planned out 5 major locations that we agreed had to be involved. For example Big Ben, Waterloo Station, London eye, South Bank were some of the major locations we really wanted to shoot at. However for the rest of the shots we decided to see what we found on the day and see what we stumble upon. When coming to the editing side of things we had a rough ideas of what was going where but we found it much easier to tailer the structure and frequency of the shots to the song, It gave us a far more professional looking product.

Story Boards

Below are a few images of story boards we drew pre filming. However i believe we didn't use them to they're full potential, in the sense that the majority of our shots used where unpredictable and most certainly spontaneous  (not specific locations etc).
